Cortisol

Cortisol is produced by small glands on top of the kidneys called the adrenal glands. Known as “the stress hormone,” cortisol is released as the body’s natural response to stress. Chronic stress can cause the adrenal glands to become overworked, which leads to dramatically diminished levels of cortisol. This condition is known as Adrenal Fatigue.

Stress gives men the initiative to overcome life’s struggles and challenges. But like anything in life, too much is not always a good thing. Because men are less likely to “give up”, they often become overworked and tired. They put more focus on their responsibilities and less on their health.

Medical conditions associated with cortisol imbalance in men include; high blood pressure, obesity, hyperglycemia and weakened immune system.

Cortisol Imbalance

Like any hormone imbalance, abnormal cortisol levels can lead to serious health conditions. Adrenal fatigue can affect all other hormones in the body, causing a chain-reaction. In addition to stress management, special testing and supplements may be needed to help support and maintain healthy adrenal gland function.
